Please Welcome Sarah from Mum in Bloom!

June 23, 2010 By Julie 5 Comments

I’m heading out of town with my family for two weeks to Delaware and Vermont where we’ll be visiting friends and celebrating our ten year wedding anniversary!  We’re super excited to take this trip, but I’m really going to miss all my blogging buddies.  ALOT!  I’ve got some great guest bloggers lined up in addition to a Daring Bakers challenge and hopefully a post or two from the road, so Mommie Cooks will go on in my absence.  Please know that even if I don’t return a comment immediately, I will visit everyone that took the time to visit me once I return home.

Also, be sure to enter our very first GIVEAWAY!  You can learn more HERE.  Now, without further ado…. Sarah!

I am very excited to have Sarah from Mum in Bloom with us today!  I’ve been following Sarah’s blog for almost as long as I’ve been blogging myself.  She never fails to share a tasty recipe with me each time I visit and I absolutely love how she always puts a page from an old childrens book at the end of her posts.  It makes me smile with the reminders of my own childhood.

Sarah graciously offered to share a bit about herself with us so let’s give her a warm welcome!  Also, be sure to stop by tomorrow when she shares her recipe for Garam Masala Cookies.  Without further ado, Mum in Bloom!

Mommie Cooks asked Sarah…

How long have you been blogging?
Since July 2009.  Almost 1 year already!

What inspired you to start blogging?
I needed a creative outlet and a way to keep track of my recipes as I am new to cooking in-season, local and from scratch.  I love to collect recipes and this was a great way to do it and talk food with other bloggers.  I literally discovered reading blogs and started blogging all in the same week.

Tell us something about yourself we might not expect.
I quit cooking altogether from age 25-30 (I’m 36 now).  I didn’t have the heart for it and just didn’t bother, only simple stuff from a box that could be microwaved.  I knew I loved my husband when I met him because he made me want to cook again, and I still love it.. so does he!

What’s your favorite meal to cook for company?
Seafood.  It’s always seems so elegant to serve a fresh seafood meal.  My second favourite would have to be roast.

How about for yourself and/or your family?
We are meat eaters but are trying to eat more white meats and seafood.  My new favourite easy meals to serve usually involve chicken or a white fish of some sort along with a vegetable.  I bake like a maniac and love eating it as much as I love baking it.  I bake so much that I’m always sending it to the neighbours or someone in need.

What’s your favorite spice to cook with?
Cardamom.  I discovered it this year and am having so much fun experimenting with it.  I’m currently experimenting Saigon Cinnamon and Garam Marsala.

If you were dropped on a deserted island and could only eat three things while you were there, what would they be?
Apples, Oatmeal Chocolate Cookies and Candy.

Wow I've never heard of those spices. You might be in a whole different ballgame than me. HA! Meaning…you rock as a cook, and I don't. 🙂
