I’m out of town with my family for two weeks to Delaware and Vermont where we’ll be visiting friends and celebrating our ten year wedding anniversary! We’re super excited to take this trip, but I’m really going to miss all my blogging buddies. ALOT! I’ve got some great guest bloggers lined up in addition to a Daring Bakers challenge and hopefully a post or two from the road, so Mommie Cooks will go on in my absence. Please know that even if I don’t return a comment immediately, I will visit everyone that took the time to visit me once I return home.
Also, be sure to enter our very first GIVEAWAY! You can learn more HERE. Now, without further ado….Alex!

Today I’m excited to welcome Alex from Ma What’s for Dinner over to Mommie Cooks! The minute I stumbled upon Alex and her blog I knew we would get along well. We both love to cook, we both have ALOT of boys in our familial clan and we both have a fabulous blog that we love. What more to life is there?
I asked Alex a few questions about herself to help you all get to know her better. I enjoyed hearing what she had to say and I know you will too! So grab a Watermelon Mojito…. what’s that? You don’t know how to make a watermelon mojito? Well you’re in luck because Alex will be showing us how to do just that tomorrow. Ok, grab whatever ya got to drink, sit back and let’s learn a bit more about Alex.
Mommie asked Alex…
How long have you been blogging?
I’ve been blogging since October 2009

What inspired you to start blogging?
So many of my friends were struggling with what to make their children for dinner each night, how to feed their babies, and how to get their kids to eat something that wasn’t beige. My kids and I took to the kitchen, wrote a cookbook about our adventures and decided to share it with the world.

Tell us something about yourself we might not expect.
I went to college on a Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Scholarship. I was the goalie…ha, just kidding, I just wanted to see if you were paying attention. Seriously though, I was the head manager of the Boston University Terriers from 1992-1996 and I have a National Championship Ring from when we won the whole shebang in 1995. I wanted to be a sportscaster back in the day, but then something sidetracked me and I decided that the news media was not the world I wanted to be in. I still miss it at times, and really I miss the smell of the ice arena.

What’s your favorite meal to cook for company?
Oh I’m weird that way. I never cook the same thing twice for company. And I usually have never cooked it before. I like to try crazy elaborate dishes like stuffed pork loin or bouillabaisse when people are coming over. I figure if they totally fail I can always order pizza. Haven’t ordered out yet though.

How about for yourself and/or your family?
My favorite meal is steamed clams with a big salad and some garlic bread.

What’s your favorite spice to cook with?
I love saffron and black truffle butter. It makes a mean risotto! But since it’s so expensive I only save it for special occasions.

If you were dropped on a deserted island and could only eat three things while you were there, what would they be?
sushi, red wine, and blueberries 🙂
sushi, red wine, and blueberries 🙂
Alex, you’re a girl after my own heart with that last answer. I’ll visit your island any day! Be sure to stop by tomorrow to check out her refreshingly delicious watermelon mojitos!
I'm bummed that the ice hockey scholarship was just a joke!
Oh it wasn't a joke! I did have the scholarship, I just wasn't the goalie! 🙂 My dad would have been really bummed if it was a joke! $100,000 bummed.
Lots of yummy love,
