Revisiting Rice Krispies and a $100 Giveaway!

June 23, 2011 By Julie 173 Comments

Remember these critters?  Welcoming their cute little faces back to the blog can only mean one thing; it’s time for another Rice Krispies competition!  With the rising mercury and school free, lazy long days officially here, the new theme for this round is… you guessed it, favorite summer pastimes.  As we prepare to introduce our newest entry into the mix, I wanted to take a minute to reflect back on our recipe from the first round.

When you strip away the feathers and facial features (apologies to my furry and feathered friends) , what you’re left with is a refreshing and simple lemonade rice krispie treat that can be shaped and molded to your liking or simply cut into squares and served up as is.  As you can see with mine below, I cut them into letters and had a little fun with my picture.  I’ve attached the basic recipe at the end of this post, so feel free to whip up a batch and let your own creativity flow; if you can keep from eating them all first, that is.

We’ll be looking for your support and votes again soon over at the Rice Krispie’s Facebook page, so get ready.  In the mean time, inquiring minds want to know… What’s your most creative idea for serving up rice krispie treats?   Let me know in the comments below for a chance to win a $100 Visa gift card!  Other entries can be earned through the usual methods:

  • Following Rice Krispies on Facebook (a necessity when it comes time to vote for your favorite entry)
  • Following Mommie Cooks on Facebook
  • Following Mommie Cooks through Twitter
  • Or just go organic and join directly through RSS or email

For additional chances to win, be sure to visit my teammates blogs where they’ll be giving away gift cards as well.

  • Sommer from A Spicy Perspective
  • Robyn from Add a Pinch
  • Amy from She Wears Many Hats

The contest will close on July 4th and the winner will be announced on the 5th.  Stay tuned for our newest summertime entry in the next couple weeks and good luck!

Update:  After throwing the comments into random.org and hitting go, the winning comment was number 1!  Congrats Mami2jcn!

White Chocolate Lemon Rice Krispie Treats

Total Time: 20 min

Ingredients:

3 Tbsp Butter or Margarine
4 Cups Miniature Marshmallows
6 Cups Rice Krispies
1/2 Cup White Chocolate Chips
11/2 tsp Lemon Zest, Not Compressed (about 2 Large Lemons)

Directions:

Melt butter over low heat in a large saucepan. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.

Stir white chocolate chips and lemon zest into marshmallow mixture. Add in Rice Krispies® cereal and stir until all ingredients are well combined.

Spray a 13x9-inch pan or cookie sheet and a spatula with non-stick cooking spray. Pour Lemonade Rice Krispies® mixture into pan and spread with spatula. Cool completely.

Note: I am working on this project in conjunction with The Motherhood and Rice Krispies®.  I have been compensated for materials and stand to win an awesome prize should our team win out over the competition.

Hmm my most creative idea for rice krispie treats… I think I would make heart cut-outs with the bars and stack/ decorate them like a layer cake, frosted and topped with ganache! I’d play around with different flavors and cut-outs, depending on the holiday/ occasion.

Shapes are always fun, as well as adding peanut butter or chocolate chips!

Smile. So many comments for such a great giveaway! As for how I like to serve up rice crispies? I roll them into little balls and dip them in chocolate (both milk and white) and then in sprinkles. So yummy! Thank you for sharing your creativity with me tonight. I am leaving with a growling stomach, but a smile on my face. I hope you are having a joy-filled weekend. Much love from Austin!

Hmmmm…. To be honest I havent worked a lot with Rice Krispies. But I think they are similar to Rice Bubbles. I make these little Bubble Bumblebees, marshmellows, banana and honey. So yummy and a super cute treat for the young at heart. 🙂

Typically I add white chocolate to my krispie treats, but I once made some with peanut butter then dipped them in melted chocolate. Those were great too 🙂

I love building things out of RK Treats. They’re just like blocks, but stickier! 🙂

And you can cover them in ganache to make everything stick together. Yes, it’s messy. But oh, so much fun!

Rice crispy treats work well on popsicle sticks. You can color them for any occasion.

Hope you are enjoying Vermont. We head up next week.

I’d never really thought about it before, but I think I’d mix in some almond extract, dried cherries, slivered almonds, mini marshmallows and chocolate chips to make a rocky-road inspired Rice Krispie treat!
