I may not be a fan of cold weather, but if there’s one thing I can say in favor of the dog days of winter it’s that the comfort food is worth the chill. For me, soups, stews and nourishing whole grain dishes all rank up there with hugs and warm blankets. I simply love to bite into a warm hearty bowl of cold weather food. It’s the kind of goodness that thaws you from the inside out….

If you’ve been reading any of the recent posts here at Mommie Cooks, then I’m sure you’ve heard it mentioned that our kitchen is without a working stove or oven. Not that I’m counting the days or anything, but we’ve now been without these important cooking appliances since the first week in June. It began as a renovation, but quickly changed to broken equipment when we discovered upon opening the box that a forklift had literally smashed through both the oven doors with it’s tines. Oh yes it did. Here’s a picture of the damage taken by my contractor….
It’s no secret that my husband is a meat lover. When I cook a meal, the sides are merely a reliable method of filling up any open spaces that might just happen be left on the plate once the dead carcass has been skinned, prepped, cooked and dropped in front of him for consumption. So as you can imagine, when Masterbuilt contacted me and asked if I wanted to review one of their electronic meat smokers, he practically wrote the reply for me.
As I sat down with the intent to compose a post all about the glories of soup this morning (more on that in a minute), it came to my attention that I never formally introduced our new family member on the blog. He’s been glorified on facebook and I even dropped a shot or two of him on instagram and twitter, but the blog has been surprisingly baby free.
