I’m not sure why I waited so long to get this soup up on the blog. I love one pot meals and this dish definitely fits into that category. It’s a staple at our house all through the cold weather season. Not that you need convincing, of course, but here’s why I can’t stop eating the stuff:…
Greek Inspired Peppers
I may not be a fan of cold weather, but if there’s one thing I can say in favor of the dog days of winter it’s that the comfort food is worth the chill. For me, soups, stews and nourishing whole grain dishes all rank up there with hugs and warm blankets. I simply love to bite into a warm hearty bowl of cold weather food. It’s the kind of goodness that thaws you from the inside out….
White Bean Chili
Can you believe that Thanksgiving is less than a week away? I love the holiday season but dang if it doesn’t feel like time speeds up with all the excitement going on. This year we’re hosting the big day which means we’ll have seven additional mouths to feed including this precious little one. Meet my new nephew Alden Jacob….
Ginger Scallion Soup
As I sat down with the intent to compose a post all about the glories of soup this morning (more on that in a minute), it came to my attention that I never formally introduced our new family member on the blog. He’s been glorified on facebook and I even dropped a shot or two of him on instagram and twitter, but the blog has been surprisingly baby free.
Hearty Lentils and Beans
First off, I want to give a heart felt thank you for all the incredible comments and emails that people sent with regards to Alex. The fact that you took the time to share your experiences, support and love really touched my heart. I was especially stirred by the tribute that my friend Julie from Willow Bird Baking did over at her site. If you haven’t had a chance to stop by and check it out, you should definitely do so. Her class of 7th graders is one amazing clan of kids. I had a hard time seeing clearly through all my blubbering and tears, but I know it involved teenage boys dressed in pink and a rainbow tribute from the entire class to Alex. THIS is why the internet is so incredibly amazing. People you’ve never even met can lift your spirit and make a difference in your life with the single touch of a button. Thank you so very much.
Cheddary Cheesy Grits
Remember the banana’s foster french toast recipe from a few months back? If you recall, I ended the post with a challenge to recreate the most delightful cheese grits I’d ever put my fork to. Here we are four months later and I’m finally ready to put my grits where my mouth is.
And you thought I forgot.
Aside from the months old challenge, the other inspiration pushing this recipe to the front page is my brother Matt. This guy has some mad talent in the kitchen. He doesn’t visit often enough, but when does, man do we whip up some seriously fabulous fodder. Long before the french toast was even a bite of inspiration in my brain, my brother and I set to work attempting to create an award winning cheese grit for one culinary inspired Christmas morning breakfast. While our results were good, they weren’t “knock out” “drag out” “you two really should start your own restaurant” fabulous. We enjoyed our spoils but knew there was further work to be done.

Fast forward to today and I believe that I may have finally conquered the almighty grit. Loosen your belts and grab your whisk cuz I’m about to take you on a creamy cheesy ride you won’t soon forget. This one’s for you Matt.
