It never ceases to amaze me how quickly you can go from this…
To this.
I am back in snowy Charlotte today after a whirlwind five day trip to Playa del Carmen for Food Blog Camp 2011. The weather was amazing, the information informative, and the food delicious. We learned everything from food styling with Matt Armendariz and Adam Pearson, to Photography with Todd and Diane Chu, to the business of blogging with Jaden Hair, David Lebovitz, and Elise Bauer.
Learning the Art of Food Styling
The Grand Velas hotel was stunning. Just take a look at a few of these pictures if you don’t believe me.
We were able to get up close and personal with the chefs and see them performing their craft. It was a true treat to have the opportunity to not only watch these chefs in action, but document the experience as well.
There is just something so surreal about sitting at dinner chatting the intricacies of blogging with David Lebovitz and Jaden Hair one night and Elise Bauer the next. You feel as though you have a front seat to learn what it takes to be successful in the online world. The leaders treated each and every blogger as their peer and were generous in sharing their knowledge of what brought them to where they were today.
Everything else aside though, I have to say that the best part of the entire trip were the amazing women (and a few men) that shared the experience. Women like Jen, my roommate, from Eating Clean Recipes, Susan from Swoon my Spoon, Fran from Frantastic Food, Sally from Bake Cupcakes and Maggie from Loaded Kitchen, who’s still stuck in Cancun until tomorrow because of the Snowmaggedan occurring here in the south today (stay safe girlie!).

A can’t imagine a more perfect experience. Thank you to KerryGold, our sponsor, Grand Velas our hosts, and Jaden, Todd and Diane, Matt and Adam, David, and Elise for putting together the best food blog camp yet!

Laura,
I apologize again for not coming out to see you. I felt just terrible about it. 🙁 It was definitely a beautiful hotel. A once in a lifetime opportunity for sure!

So glad you had a great time…love your pictures!
(But sorry you had to return home to snow)
can’t tell you how jealous i was of you in NC. had to go through security again to get home 🙂 i feel your pain with coming back to cold weather from 80 degrees… can’t seem to get any sympathy from the husband.
Lucky you Julie, I can only imagine what a fantastic time you must have had. David Lebovitz – wow!

How exciting! Wish I was there. Seems you had a lot of fun there. Thanks for sharing your exirince. The pictures look great!
I need to come to your house I love snow, but I also love the beach. By the way, you have a pretty house if that’s the outside.
So jealous of you but so happy that you had the chance to go! I was lucky to spend my summer vacation at the hotel and was just blown away by the food, service, and views. The only thing missing was the up-close experience with the chefs and camp leaders. Just couldn’t get away at this time of year. It’s been a blast to read all the tweets and stories.
Maybe next year… and welcome back!
welcome back Julie

best wishes,
Roxana
