Ok guys. It’s time to have a little fun around here. I am participating in a year long competition sponsored by Rice Krispies where four teams of four bloggers each, get together once a quarter and create a rice krispie treat and centerpiece based on a given theme. The submissions are then voted on by you and judged by the folks at Kelloggs. The winning team has their recipe featured and after all four competitions have been completed, an overall grand prize winner is announced.
Meet the team. My partners in crime include:
- Amy from She Wears Many Hats
- Robyn from Add a Pinch
- Sommer from A Spicy Perspective
With all that talent in our pocket, just try and tell me we don’t have this one in the bag.
Meet our adorable rice krispie chick sitting in his oh so delicious chocolate rice krispie nest. The chick consists of Rice Krispies, Marshmallow, butter, white chocolate and lemon zest. Dip him in a little more chocolate, swirl him around in some coconut, pipe out a beak and some eyes and voila. The nest is a simple chocolate butter cookie recipe that utilizes a combination of regular and coco krispies.
In case you’re wondering how we made them, take a look at this step by step diagram for making your own edible Easter chicks.
But the treat wasn’t the only part of the assignment. We also needed to create a centerpiece to go with it. And what’s Easter without a bunny rabbit. Am I right? These guys were the same recipe as the chicks, we just piped out ears with white and pink candy melts and attached them with a little “candy melt” glue to help them stick.
Here are a few shots of the project in action. Such a fun, fun day we all had!
And when the Rice Krispies were all molded and the chocolate all dipped, here was the result of our busy day’s work. Notice the bunny bums hanging out of the rabbit holes.
And a closer shot of the garden scene. the dirt in the garden is coco krispies and all the veggies are real. The grass is coconut died green. We melted green candy melts and spread them over the top of the hill to help it stick better. What do you think?
So now we hand it over to you. Beginning April 12th, Rice Krispies will post all four entries up on their facebook page. You’ll have one week to throw our team votes and then the winner will be announced shortly after by Rice Krispies. You can also see all the entries come in throughout the week over at The Motherhood’s Rice Krispies Circle page which is designated as our one stop shop for all things Rice Krispie!
AND… as if that wasn’t enough excitement for one day, I’m also giving away a $100 Visa Gift Card in conjunction with the competition! The contest runs through next Tuesday, the 12th of April when I’ll announce the winner. All you need to do to enter is leave a comment below letting me know what you think of our rice krispie creation and you’re in like flint! You can get bonus entries for:
- Subscribing to Mommie Cooks RSS Feed

This is such a fun recipe! I love the idea and how well you executed it. I would have loved it even more if the rice crispies were used more than just for the base of the bunny/chick and dirt. However, that is probably because coconut is not one of my favorite ingredients and dyed coconut seems even less appealing, but I know its more for decoration. I’m sure you will win!! 🙂
I love your guy’s creation. Especially the garden and the critters.
I’ve got to try those! My neighbors would love them! You are some creative gals!
