Chocolate Cinnaberry Cookies

I recently read a report on NPR’s website claiming that the secret to winning a highly coveted Nobel Award may indeed be something as elementary as eating more chocolate.  Now Seriously.  If I had known this at a younger age, I’m certain I would be standing on that podium accepting my award right about now. I can almost imagine it as I type this;

“Fellow members of the academy, I’m honored to accept this award today for successfully breaking up a war over which child deserved procurement of the coveted red plate with the Start Wars yoda picture on top……”

Ok, so maybe not in this lifetime (that would take more chocolate than this body could handle in ten lifetimes), but if eating more of the dark brown sweet goodness means I can at the very least broker a better peace among the inhabitants within my own household then I’m all for it.  Baby steps right?

So maybe I went just a wee bit wild with this latest creation, but can you blame me?  If someone’s going to give me an excuse to eat chocolate, by god I’m going to jump on it like a frog to a lily pad.  It doesn’t hurt that they’re pretty darn easy to make either.

You ready to get baking?  Grab  up a little butter and sugar and let the creaming begin.  Toss in a few eggs and vanilla and swirl once or twice more.

In a separate bowl, combine your dry goods, including but not limited to, a healthy portion of chocolate “peacekeeping” magic powder.

Incorporate the dry into the wet until you’ve fully emptied the bowl of it’s contents.   Now add in some more chocolate.  Don’t worry, it’s good for you.  Throw in a few dried cherries or cranberries as well if you’re feeling frisky.

Stir it all up to combine and then lay out the dough in tablespoonfuls on a baking sheet to cook up.  Give them about 10-12 minutes in the oven and you’re ready.

Note:  For a particularly tense peacekeeping mission, I recommend handing still warm from the oven chocolate disks to both parties, allowing them to eat quietly amongst themselves  and then subsequently daring them to remember what was so important about the battle royale in the first place.  Chances are they’ll be too busy reaching for more of the chocolate magic to even bother to address your inquiry.

Mission accomplished and award rightfully earned.
