I’m shaking things up a bit today and heading over to Maranda’s blog, Jolts and Jollies, for a guest post. Maranda is one of those rare people that, when you meet her, you know you’ve found someone special. She and I stumbled across one another’s blogs a few months back. Aside from the fact that each recipe she posts is more mouthwatering than the next (I’m still drooling over that King Ranch Chicken “esque” recipe she posted a month or so back), her writing brings across a kindness that welcomes you in and makes you want to get to know her better. And once you do, you instantly know you’ve found a friend for life.

Holiday Egg Nog
So how is everyone coming along with their Christmas preparations? We finished up our Christmas cards AND finally bought the Christmas tree this weekend. Our whole house smells like Frasier fir and I’m loving every minute of it. Now the real craziness begins. Between the baking, the cleaning (guests arrive in just over a week, can you believe it?) and the cupcake competition, my calender is chocked full. That’s right, cupcake competition. I’ve been baking cupakes like a crazy woman trying to come up with THE perfect winning recipe for the upcoming competition at The Ballantyne Hotel on Sunday here in Charlotte. The winner gets an overnight stay in their extravagant Plaza suite. Bring it on.
My first thought for the cupcakes was to incorporate egg nog in some shape or form. I originally bought the boxed egg nog but quickly decided that I could nab two recipes in one go and whip up a batch of the homemade stuff. Let me tell you, I’m pretty sure I won’t be buying the store bought stuff again because homemade egg nog is Da Bomb. My kids can’t get enough of the stuff. They take theirs with a little chocolate syrup swirled into the cup for an extra special treat. And me? I enjoy swirling something a little more “adult” into the cup. Pure flavor heaven.

Family Friendly Fridays: Pomtastic! A Story of Ribs and One Very Addicting Drink.
And so our story begins. Once upon a time there was a lowly food blogger looking for ideas on what to make for dinner. She searched high and low in books and on cooking blogs but just couldn’t seem to find the right dish for her family.
The blogger was sheer out of ideas, so she poured herself a Pom and tonic with a twist of lime using the Pom juice she was given from Ryan over at Pom Wonderful and sat down to ponder her dilemma.

The Bartender is in the House! Alex Whips up a Batch of Watermelon Mojitos
Your host for today is Alex from Ma What’s for Dinner! If you want to learn a bit more about her, be sure to check yesterday’s post where we asked Alex which three foods she’d want with her if she were stuck on a deserted island. I tell ya, she’s my kind of foodie. I’d bunk on her island anyday! Take it away Alex!

Sangria Blanco
Warning! The recipe you are about to see is NOT kid friendly. But it IS very adult friendly. I’m going to share a white sangria recipe today that I found through Southern Living Magazine. I’m not a huge drinker, but my women’s cooking group was getting together last week and the theme was Cinco de Mayo, so I figured, it wouldn’t be a complete event without a little sangria in the mix.
