Cinna-sweet Almonds

February 19, 2013 By Julie 7 Comments

Warning!!  These nuts are seriously addicting.  Let’s just say I had my husband on a grocery store run for a second bag of almonds after surreptitiously consuming an entire recipe’s worth over a mere 24 hour period.  How could I let a simple nut get the better of me you might ask?  Allow me to share.

Chocolate Cinnaberry Cookies

October 15, 2012 By Julie 12 Comments

I recently read a report on NPR’s website claiming that the secret to winning a highly coveted Nobel Award may indeed be something as elementary as eating more chocolate.  Now Seriously.  If I had known this at a younger age, I’m certain I would be standing on that podium accepting my award right about now. I can almost imagine it as I type this;

“Fellow members of the academy, I’m honored to accept this award today for successfully breaking up a war over which child deserved procurement of the coveted red plate with the Start Wars yoda picture on top……”

Ok, so maybe not in this lifetime (that would take more chocolate than this body could handle in ten lifetimes), but if eating more of the dark brown sweet goodness means I can at the very least broker a better peace among the inhabitants within my own household then I’m all for it.  Baby steps right?

Caramel Apple Frozen Yogurt and a Lesson in the Art of Apple Growing from Tree Top

September 18, 2012 By Julie 10 Comments

A few months back I had the privilege of flying west to the great state of Washington and spending a couple whirlwind days with the amazing people at Tree Top apple juice.    I have to say, I always enjoy these adventures when they’re presented to me.  The generosity of the people sponsoring the event never fails to astound and the education you come away with is something you could only garner through viewing the process straight from the source.  This trip was certainly no exception.

Tropical-tastic Bread Pudding

March 5, 2012 By Julie 23 Comments

Spring break is coming and I, for one, can hardly wait.  Last year we did Disney World.  It was blazing hot, crowded as all get out, and yet it still managed to be serious fun for the young and old crowd alike.  I’ve decided that the secret to tackling the magic mouse with small kids is to bring a gaggle of adults with you.  That way you have multiple ways to hand off children and enjoy a bit of the fun yourself.  Because let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a theme park?  I love the rides, the atmosphere and, depending on where I’m at, the food (think Dole pineapple whips in Magic Kingdom – yummo!).  Watching the kid’s expressions of joy is gift enough, but if I can throw a spin on the rockin’ roller coaster into the mix, the trip is blissfully complete.

Snickerdoodle Cupcakes

November 4, 2011 By Julie 23 Comments

Not to make my snicker doodle cupcakes feel bad about their place in the culinary world or any such thing, but today I had really, really wanted to post my insanely delicious recipe for lobster bisque.  If only I could find the recipe.  Seriously, if you all saw how crazy I ran this blog you’d wonder how anything gets done.  A recipe stashed here, one written down over there (on the back of my child’s homework notebook no less)… my organization skills need some genuine guidance if any ever did.

So in the interim of searching, I’m putting up a filler (and a pretty tasty one at that) to cover for my lack in management prowess.  Feel free to oogle over these fantabulous cupcakes and pay no attention to the crazy lady in the corner rifling salaciously through random paper files in search of her prized seafood soup recipe.

Grandma’s Creamy Lemon Pie with Boysenberry Sauce – A guest post with Lyndsay from Pinch of Yum

April 20, 2011 By Julie 24 Comments

Lyndsay is one of my favorite food bloggers.  I’ve been following her recipes for awhile now.  She always seems to know exactly what I’m in the mood for and then she seals the deal with gorgeous shots that would make anyone crave a bit of what she’s just created.  If you don’t believe me, check out this incredible lemon pie.  And when you’re finished oohing and ahhing, head over to Lyndsay’s blog; Pinch of Yum for more taste tantalizing treats.

——————————-

Calling all lemon lovers!  And all non-lemon lovers!  It really doesn’t matter what your thoughts are on lemon desserts, because this is a dessert in a league entirely of its own.

I will be the first to admit that I typically don’t like lemon-y sweets.  Lemon bars, lemon pies, lemon curd?  None of it really appeals to me.  However, I absolutely love this pie.  That’s my testimonial for all the non-lemon lovers .  Just give it a try.  I dare you not to like it.

And why wouldn’t you try it, since you probably have all the ingredients in your kitchen right now?
